A sacred site of Power.

In the year 1550, Stonehenge stood weathered yet resolute upon the windswept Salisbury Plain, two miles west of Amesbury in Wiltshire, England. Time and the elements had softened its edges, but the ancient megalithic structure remained a place of deep mystery and awe. The outer ring of towering sarsen stones—each approximately 13 feet tall, seven feet wide, and weighing around 25 tons—still upheld some of their horizontal lintels, locked into place by prehistoric mortise and tenon joints. This engineering feat, unmatched by other monuments of its era, spoke to a forgotten mastery.

Within the outer circle lay a ring of smaller, darker bluestones, brought from the distant Preseli Hills of Wales. Deeper still stood the trilithons: immense, free-standing pairs of sarsens joined by lintels, now partially collapsed, yet unmistakably deliberate in their arrangement. The entire site was aligned precisely to the movements of the sun—sunrise at the summer solstice and sunset at the winter solstice—marking Stonehenge as a sacred calendar of the turning year.

By 1550, much of the original monument was in ruin, stones having toppled or been repurposed by local villagers over the centuries. Yet even in decay, Stonehenge held a commanding presence, rooted in layers of myth and power. The surrounding earthworks, some still visible, were dotted with hundreds of burial mounds—tumuli—remnants of a long-forgotten necropolis that once honored kings, warriors, and shamans.

More than a relic of a bygone age, Stonehenge was a living place of power in the supernatural world. It served as a Cearn, a sacred site for the Garou—the werewolves—who guarded it fiercely and performed rites to cleanse and renew the spirit of Gaia. Elders of multiple tribes held vigil beneath its looming stones, drawing upon the ancient resonance of the land.

Simultaneously, Stonehenge remained a Freehold for the Changelings—the Fae-touched dreamers bound to the magic of glamour and memory. They viewed the site as a place where the Veil between the Dreaming and the mortal world thinned, a threshold of time and myth. On certain nights, under the right moon, the ruins shimmered with old majesty, and echoes of the Tuatha de Danaan could be heard in the wind.

Thus, in 1550, Stonehenge was not merely a ruin—it was a crucible of supernatural power, a place where the old magics still stirred, and the destinies of Garou, Changelings, and perhaps others, intertwined beneath the ancient stones.
